Oni. Likes Boss a lot if that weren't already clear. Basically from the outset he felt a kinship with him, he could guess for himself that he was a criminal pretty early on and meeting someone similarly identified that way gave him something to latch onto in a sense. He admires how responsible and hard working Boss seems to be for someone his age even if it honestly worries him HOW hard he works sometimes.

He hadn't taken the crush too seriously early on because he'd felt, kind of awkward about the age difference between them - - and didn't want to tangle up crush-y feelings with the general... dad sense of overprotectiveness because that's just weird. But he pretty quickly got over that especially as Boss leaned into being his "owner" which Oni is way more into than he thought he would be. He likes having a leash, he likes having that direction and he earnestly does want to protect Boss and do whatever he can to help make him happy and just be something uncomplicated and nice, even if he realizes monogamy isn't exactly an expectation in the relationship. Boss also really like Oni a lot! He's not really sure what he did to earn the position of holding Oni's leash but he's kind of thankful for it not only because he does have Concerns about Oni losing it at some point or another--profiles are misleading but like... uh... He ALSO didn't take the crush thing too seriously at the start because like... Boss has a lot of crushes. He's just like this. He'd be sorry but also like he's not. Some of the factors were also like... the age thing, the whole How Will Other People See It (especially when 99 kept ragging them about it), and knowing that there's more important things to focus in on. Buuut the thing that really kept making Boss up the ante each time was really when Oni and he would see eye to eye. Boss can't really see himself as being unequal with someone, especially since they're both amnesiacs who woke up more or less at the same time. So he was just really resistant to ever being treated as someone who needed to be shielded or protected.

Sometimes he can be a brat tho. And half of that is because he trusts that Oni won't hold it against him or think him immature for acting like that. lol. Beyond that, Oni is just a good guy--criminal or no, and he will in fact fight people who try to say otherwise (LOOKING AT YOU, A).

How's Oni feeling about the unit knowing about the "special hugging"? And how will he feel about it if someone (not Maki) finds out and is judging?

Oni is like.. Embarrassed but not ashamed if that makes sense. Embarrassed because it had in fact been something they'd been teased about and in a sense they've given 99 a victory on that front. As far as their unit knowing goes he's pretty okay with that otherwise and he'll get over the embarrassment even if he doesn't plan on like a lot of PDA outside their dorm.

And IT WOULD DEPEND ON THE REASON FOR JUDGEMENT because in the back of his mind he is conscious of the age difference and if outed based on that alone would probably get concerned enough to have a Talk with boss about boundaries and comfort and all that. But if it's based on the criminal aspect he'd be like lol fuck you at this point, especially because Boss is also obviously a criminal??

Gimme Oni-Phoenix CR feelings so far!

ONI LIKES PHOENIX A LOT he seems generally like a really good dude with his head on straight. Oni does feel a little bit awkward with him at times in the sense of... He feels like he's on a bit of a different wavelength than Phoenix in terms of rowdiness levels. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing but it does affect his interactions some as generally the other BEDE members are on similar levels in terms of rowdiness.

He would be very concerned about the self sacrificial streak but doesn't really know about that yet smh.

Phoenix also!! really likes Oni! They haven't had like, any heart-to-hearts but Oni has always been level with him and seems really pragmatic and also obviously cares about the unit, or at least Boss. Phoenix also really appreciates fight date? Like Oni clearly enjoys it so he doesn't have to fret about it and it helped him a lot, so he'd probably ask for more fight date any time he's really frustrated.

He does think Oni's tats are like, gorgeous. And he is pretty concerned about Oni's life?? Yakuza sound like they suck and he doesn't understand Oni being with them but it must be for sucky reasons.

Basically he likes and respects Oni a lot and would love to get to know him more, but he's not in a rush, he figures they'll figure each other out with time.

Aside from Boss is Oni crushing on anyone?

Boss has a bunch of fight crushes but OUTSIDE OF FIGHT he has a bit of a crush on Wire. He admires and respects him a lot and it's really hard not to dere for the first person that kicked his ass in Imeeji and also, seems like a really responsible but still badass dude.

He also has a crush on Shuten because Shuten is nice and friendly and also down to fight. Oni is extremely easy with a few key factors.

HOW IS PHOENIX ON THE CRUSHING

THE GREAT AND ALSO TERRIBLE THING ABOUT REAN and therefore Phoenix is he can like, crush on everyone, without noticing he's crushing on anyone... Romantic self-awareness is his weakest state. He isn't event unromantically aware because he notices OTHER PEOPLE having relationships just fine he's just... Not very aware of himself, also, he thinks there's zero reason anyone should like him like that so he doesn't think about it...

Anyway Phornix has 100% noticed he's surrounded by cool hot people he'd love to get to know more, but like, all of them are friends! Potentially good friends!! Right?

B and E confuse him a lot, because they are lying liars but also very cute and he is not great at knowing the best way to deal with such evasive people but he really loves them! H is similarly if not even more difficult to deal with?? This guy!!

All of BE=DE is easier to handle but he doesn't feel exceptionally close to anyone, though 99 and Oni relax him because they're older, more mature, he feels more on their level even when they aren't on the same wavelength on everything, and he feels vaguely protective of Boss and Sanguine but he hasn't settled on whether that's as a big brother figure or not (but even if it is falcom loves their pseudo incest so it doesn't take anything off the table).

He finds Hiryuu INCREDIBLY REFRESHING because she's on his level in a lot of ways, but she's also very young for him, otherwise he might be kinda noticing a slight crush on her but she's younger than his little sister's age?? (again tho, falcom).

Probably the person he has the closest to like any inkling he likes is Shuten, but that's still like, so far from being any amount self-aware. He isn't really... Even at the "I have a crush on Shuten" awareness stage he's just like "Shuten is real nice to hang around I want to do a nice thing for him" but then again he wants to do nice things for literally everyone so it's hard for him to notice when it's more specified.

What're your desires for Oni in general lately?

I don't have specific immediate desires other than like... Getting more memories tbh. Oni doesn't really have a lot of interest in BEDE powers yet outside the ability to break shit really efficiently since some of it is fight /power up based but he hasn't been fighting people out of a NEED to fight people, and he wouldn't want to bring powers into it unless they did too. Because that would totally be cheating.

I am super invested in making Boss's love life more complicated. AND IN GENERAL playing with BEDE and HSS and Alcheme and TRR and I realize that's like half the teams so what!!

Long term I am INCREDIBLY EXCITED to break Oni over my knee whether it be through trauma games or memory regains. In canon he doesn't necessarily "break" as much as reach a tipping point and then adopt his crazy asshole chaotic good persona. So I'm excited to develop more towards that and start giving him more later timeline memories especially with BEDE people being able to watch that transition. At his core he won't exactly change but in canon he does definitely respond to trauma and being fucked over and personal loss with "I'm going to stop giving a fuck and live my best life".

Do Oni on Maki!!

I needs to thread with Maki again but Oni is super fond of her. Despite being literal yakuza he's got a pretty strong moral compass and a protective streak so the first memory of hers he saw already made him inclined to want to keep an eye on her. But interacting with her in general she just gives the impression of someone who has probably Been Through Shit even if she doesn't remember it and he admires how much she seems to have her head on straight even with that.

The part where she actually seemed to be some kind of soldier or aassasin in a murder game is very worrying but he doesn't want to be overbearing with that. So he's glad Boss and her seem to be hitting it off and is pretty charmed by how she reacted to the teasing about it.

AS MENTIONED ON PLURK.. WILL GENUINELY FEEL GUILTY OVER FUCKING BOSS not in principle but because he knows he basically gave the signal to Maki he wouldn't get in their way. And he would back off if they had the convo about those boundaries and if Maki wanted to assert them he just, needs to address it.

REVERSE ME

Maki likes Oni a bunch. He actually ranks as the third person she has actually told about her first memory of guarding her lab (with the first two being Boss and Yasuragi). She's extremely reluctant to tell people about that one and has in fact explicitly decided to NOT tell some people because even more than her other memories it gives a sense that she is Not A Good Person. She had not actually even quite thought "some kind of soldier or assassin" to herself until Oni mentioned it, since she was avoiding thinking about it too hard, but she just... had the sense that this room full of weapons was Hers and she Knew How To Use Them and since these are basically all weapons meant to kill people she's probably killed some people. It's very nice to have someone else in boat Probably Killed Some People to talk to without worrying that she's going to scare them/put them off, so "literal yakuza" actually made her relax a lot.

She DOES keep getting vaguely weirded out by him being like "it's so unfair you were in that situation I'm sorry" because she's like... well yeah life is unfair I don't need your sympathy. BUT he hasn't been TOO weird about it so that's okay so far.

With Boss/A, she was flustered by him offering to not get in the way not only because she's flustered addressing feelings at all, but because a) she is not sure there is anything to get in the way of, as far as she knows they are not dating or anything? the whole deal was that they were not dating; and b) she's not sure that he would actually be in the way. Pulling A in appears to have only improved the situation, for example. BUT she was a little wary about going too far with that which is why she was just like... yeah maybe I'll let you know later...

Like I mentioned on plurk, IN PRINCIPLE she would not actually have a problem with him fucking Boss. But the particular scenario of it happening SPECIFICALLY when she is upset and insecure about whether Boss actually likes her or not / what their relationship is / whether she is just terrible at feelings will probably... affect that some. As will it coming as a surprise after both he and Boss gave her the impression it wasn't happening. WE WILL... SEE

I realized I didn't ask another question. Are there memories you're excited for Oni to broadcast before he regrets that decision? IS THERE A SPECIFIC ONE YOU WANT HIM TO REGRET?

MEMORIES IM EXCITED FOR BROADCASTING limiting myself to Yakuza 0; meeting Nishitani, another yakuza member who has a very... let's say horny attitude and also loves fighting and getting his ass kicked. And also generally excited for more memories with Makoto, canon love interest slash person he was supposed to kill because a lot of their moments are really cute tbh and showcase exactly how soft Majima is at his core.

Memories he'd actually regret broadcasting; three year montage of being trapped in what is basically a yakuza torture hell, losing his eye as part of that; and being stopped from backing up his sworn brother on a yakuza raid. Not that he'd be ashamed but it's largely like he doesn't think watching those would be a fun time for anyone.

Runner up, the side quest where he meets a man that literally just masturbates all day.

IS MAKI BROADCASTING MORE or has she been spooked?

She will be broadcasting more! In the thread where they talked about it she was not actually any more reluctant to broadcast after that memory than she had been previously. It was just... some extra things to add to the pile of things she is worried she might end up showing. (The list now includes: Her killing someone, someone dying unrelated to her, and this apparently terrible past of hers where she was made to do pushups until she passed out.) But she made the decision that she's risking it for the rewards, and she will probably do that until something very dramatic happens to change that. I haven't decided what I want that to be yet but maybe an execution or something

Thoughts on if they actually worked out together?

It would be cute!! Oni would like the chance to get to know her better while also getting something productive done because as much fun as fighting people is REALISTICALLY he can't be fighting people for all his exercise, and doesn't want to get rusty outside of that either. As far as yakuza characters go he's less bulk and more agility so he'd be up for the parkour/running/etc too.

IF YOU APPED A SECOND who would it be?

I don't have any ideas currently. My only SERIOUS thought for a second was L from Death Note, but that was before the game opened, and it wasn't that great an idea to begin with because if I am going to app someone to balance Maki it should probably be someone with social skills. But also I was like "I gotta establish Maki first and realistically I will probably stop caring about Death Note again in a couple months" which I kind of have. I also vaguely thought "maybe when I finish P5 I will want to play a P5" but a) not especially, b) I'm already dating the P5 cast, whoops.

So now I have zero ideas! For balance I'd probably want some kind of trashy flirty guy but I have none from things I am currently into. Which is probably fine since I'm kind of enjoying having the investment and attention to keep things going with Maki and I don't really want to mess that up anyway.

TELL ME ABOUT OGATA. Like, a summary. I know nothing about the canon or the character.

OGATA IS FROM GOLDEN KAMUY which is basically a series about a scavenger hunt for pieces of a treasure map for a stash of hidden Ainu gold, except the treasure map is tattooed onto the skins of escaped convicts. It's set right after the Russo-Japan war and Ogata was a sniper in that war but after it he defects from the army to try and pursue the gold for his own reasons.

He's one of those "you never really know what he's thinking or what his alliances are" type of characters, because he largely presents as pretty emotionless and cold hearted. But at the same time he can be prideful and assholish in ways that are really fun (for my personal tastes). I joke about it too but the mangaka also calls him a wildcat and literally gives him catlike behaviors / mannerisms. And he can work with people it sometimes just leads to him being a giant child about it.

ANYTHING YOU WEREN'T EXPECTING playing Maki so far? Unexpected developments????

BELATEDLY TALK ABOUT MINI OVERLORD AND FERAL CAT

Whisky doesn't dislike C which may sound mean but he doesn't really like anyone in a normal sense here per se so he's actually on the upper end of that. HE GENUINELY finds him pretty entertaining even if he realizes C is just full of shit and he's not actually super invested in the whole being a good minion thing - - but C has been entertaining and genuinely profitable so him so far, both in the lives sense and being willing to provide him with another gun/potentially an ability/etc.

He's not actually a very loyal person at all, so he'd drop the minion hat if push came to shove about it or if it was a a situation he'd profit off doing so. But he dislikes enough of Intensity's style and thinks C seems genuinely more savvy in some ways, so he's willing to put up with some of the small annoying child ways.

He's also really curious to test and see exactly how hardcore C is, since he gets a sense he's kinder than he lets on. But doesn't know yet how much of his willingness to use Ogata's Special Murder Talents is just a front too or if it is a front exactly how far he'd go to show that. If that makes sense!! He definitely wants to keep pushing at him and seeing what his actual limits are.

Lol nah, C is first and foremost a survivalist, and while he does enjoy the pranks and dicking around and basking in attention, he immediately latched on to B's idea of Making Themselves Visible and creating as many connections as possible. While he does generally Like most people here, his first priority is using everyone as a meatshield and keeping AlcheME's popularity up at the front of people's heads. Gold's knighthood for example was half a joke from C half trying to trick him into not crossing him. THAT HAS SINCE ESCALATED oops.

And C had been eyeing Wild City since the first Cards game! He'd already warmed up to Silver by that point and WAS mildly concerned for him, but he also saw that Wild City was ready to play hard to protect themselves, suspicious of everyone else, and that Knife City was coming. So C's thoughts were 'shit better cozy up to Silver more!!!' which also has escalated to actually caring about him do u see a pattern here.

THEN HERE'S WHISKY, THIS SCARY FUCKER, SWATTING HIM OUT THE AIR. He was absolutely right, C will say anything to save his ass, even if he wasn't sure if Whisky would ACTUALLY squash him or whatever. And he treats everything as a joke as a default reaction anyway, so he probably would not have been disappointed if Whisky had just shrugged him off and turned down the silly Minion thing, but!!! He didn't!!! Which immediately got C more invested in the end, both in a 'maybe this guy isn't so scary' and 'aha ANOTHER WILD CITY TO INVEST IN SO THEY DON'T SHANK US'

AFTER SPEAKING WITH HIM MORE, especially in the Live post, C is now very. . .oh. . .oh this guy is not! okay! at all!! And trying very hard not to show it. He still has zero memories as of now, so doesn't remember Dice's Moral Code, so he's not strictly against killing or anything, but he's not particularly fond of it or willing to go straight to playing hard if there's a more logical, profitable way of playing. (See: Alcheme knowing they were going to get busted and now shoving Bad End into maid costumes)

But anyway Whisky was very upfront about What He's About in his Whisky way and C is just like. CONCEAL DON'T FEEL, DON'T SHOW WEAKNESS, and is fine with playing along. It's fine!! It's not like they need to kill anyone here, surely this will not come up!!! Just be cool, C!! He's now pretty aware of how Danger Whisky could be buuuut hey maybe there's someone even more dangerous. THIS IS NOW MY DANGER CAT on a trial basis. So he's willing to put up that cool-headed villain front as long as he needs to, taking it as yet another Persona he's crafted (villain, overlord, normal Lord. . .Fae. . .he's been telling people all sorts of shit). His overall objective is to create some sense of obligation; Whisky's made it clear he'd bust like, anyone if need be, but gdit if he busts AlcheME C's gonna try to at least make him feel a little bad for it!!

But all that said! Whisky still pays attention to him! Which is really all you wriggle room you need to give C to launch him into latching on to someone. So he finds Whisky as generally amusing and willing to put up with him, so more than likely he'll start pushing back a bit himself to see how much Whisky will put up with. Despite liking people C is also....not too attached aside from a handful of people, but even then he's already recognizing the fleeting nature of this place and is ready to sever ties when need be.

OR that's what he thinks anyway.

He won't make a fuss if Whisky ends the minion bit but he will likely harass him EVEN MORE as he's finding out he is petty and lowkey possessive but he'll cross that bridge when he gets there. He also doesn't mind buying shit for other people because fuck what is he gonna do with all these points? GET MEMORIES? PFFFT. Might as well BUY PEOPLE'S LOVE.

So yeah, likes him!! Trusts him? Nooot really, but wants to! Mostly wants him to turn into a cat at the moment, TURN IN A CAT AND LET ME RIDE ON YOUR HEAD, WHISKY!!! Priorities.
